I have been seeing Prof. DeMeirleir for a while now through Dr. Lewis and yesterday I got my latest blood results from REDlabs in Belgium. I am positive for the retro virus. It is actually negative for XMRV but positive for MLV.
Also got some news I am just over the moon about. 10 months ago my NK function was so low I was told it may as well not be there at all. It is now back to being in the normal range!! ;D Couldn't be happier about this one! It means the treatments are beginning to work!
Back to the retrovirus...
I am going to jump right in with the treatment. It will consist of weekly IV's, continuing to try and control the oxidative stress and antiflammatories. The IV stuff is not yet in Australia, sometime between late Jan-Feb it should get approved here. KDM said he didn't want to call it a drug, it's a 'protein'. My blood has already been tested using this in Belgium and I responded.
I asked about side effects to the IV seems only to be 3 day headaches and pressure on the bladder. I had been expecting them to say vomiting ect. The other surprising thing is that it goes in the back of my hand and only for 15 minutes.
Also asked how this will effect me having a baby in the future. They said I only have to look to HIV+ women for my answer, apparently in the western world there is an almost 100% success rate for having an HIV- baby.
Expereinced my first little bit of stigma to retro viruses/transmissable diseases. I was telling a very good friend of mine about it and she physically moved backwards as she asked 'are you contagious'. The way she said it made my stomach flip and I got all sweaty. I am sure she didn't mean it, but it stung for some reason :-\
That's all I can think of to tell you for now I'm sorry! I'll post some more as it comes to me.
Hope everyone is having a good week
