Grandísima noticia Ari!!! Es posible que "se esté cociendo" algo interesante de verdad. Por el momento, el título y el contenido de la ponencia de Ron del 2 de junio en el InvestinME sigue TBC (to be confirmed), lo cual puede querer decir que desde la OMF están dando las últimas puntadas para que Ron pueda presentar algo realmente importante en IinME.

Yo ando expectante también. Llevan una temporada bastante silenciosos y espero que sea una buena señal.

Lo último que sé es que estaban trabajando duro para conseguir financiación del NIH (la cual es muy necesaria porque no ha habido noticias de cuantiosas donaciones privadas como las del año pasado) y que Janet comentó que la investigación iba muy bien.

Además de ese tour informativo que iban a hacer, creo que por Europa?

La verdad es que soy cauto y no quiero hacerme ilusiones pero percibo ó intuyo que de aquí a finales de año tendremos noticias interesantes ( aparte de los resultados de la fase III de Rituximab ).

Dado que el Big Data Study, empezó hace tiempo, recuerdo algunas de las pruebas/tecnología empleadas, e imagino que nuevos análisis se habrán añadido desde que empezó.

Motivo por el que creo que un estudio así no está al alcance de todos los investigadores (desgraciadamente) :


Microbiome Test - This test, which could conceivably be done in Ian Lipkin's lab, will examine the constituents of the gut flora. Lipkin and Hornig, of course, are working on their own microbiome analysis of mostly healthier patients. Comparing the gut flora found in the two groups would be fantastic and could help us understand why some patients just get sicker and sicker while others are able to maintain some health.

Immune Tests Galore - Earlier we heard that Mark Davis was using his big immune machine to look at ME/CFS samples. At at an End ME/CFS event, however, he said that was never done. Well, it's being done now. Ron said he will give Mark Davis a free hand with his uber immune testing machine to explore immune functioning in the severe ME/CFS patients. (When asked why he was playing such an active role in the project, Mark Davis said "When Ron Davis asks you to do something you do it" ).

Natural Killer Cell Expert On Board - Ron said Mark Davis's team was blessed by the presence of Katherine Bliss - a natural killer cell expert. She will be taking a deep look at NK cells including possibly- if I got it right - developing a better test. Davis also noted that Dr. Klimas's findings suggest that the NK cells may not be the problem so much as something in the blood that is whacking them. He suggested that something could even be turning off their mitochondria. Finding out what that might be won't be easy but he's going to give it a try.

Antibody Study - a new antibody technique will be able to tell every pathogen the patients have ever been exposed to.

EBV - there's a whole swarm of interesting Epstein-Barr Virus tests that I've never heard (EBVA EA Uric Acid, EBVA NA Copper, EBVA VCA Biotin (Vit. B7)-serum)

Bartonella/ HSV - I don't if either of these pathogens have ever been tested in ME/CFS before. Dr. Kaufman at the OMF has evidence suggesting that Bartonella may be a major player for some patients.
Mitochondrial Testing - Many mitochondrial tests are being done (Lactate HbA1C, Organic Acids-urine Ammonia, Acylcarnitines Whole Exome Genome, Pyruvate Mitochondrial Genome, CK Mitochondrial MT;NL Ratio

Metabolomics - citing Ron Tompkins - a member of the End ME/CFS Project advisory board, Davis stated that "the blood is the sewer of the body"; i.e. just about everything ends up there. Studying the proteins present in the blood in the metabolomics part of the study, could tell us a lot, therefore about what has gone wrong.

Autoantibodies - Davis is particularly interested in autoantibodies to mitochrondrial proteins and may use Lasker award winner (and ME/CFS researcher) Steven Elledge's lab at Harvard to study these (and others).

Como decía NotJust ! , el contenido de la conferencia de Ron Davis en Londres está pendiente de confirmar , pero estará basada en este estudio.

Se ha abierto un nuevo hilo en PR para recordar el inicio del Tour por Europa, que recordamos empieza el Miércoles en la Isla de Man.

Destacar que Linda Tannenbaum actualizará el estado de la Investigación, y que el Advisory Board , que incluye 3 premios nobel, tiene la determinación de resolver el misterio de la enfermedad y que todos esperamos que se encuentre pronto una cura.

De este artículo destacaría :

James Watson

Es uno de los miembros del advisory board, premio nobel, y uno de los autores de uno de los descubrimientos más importantes de los 100 últimos años. La estructura del ADN ( ahí es nada ).
Dimitió después de 2 años al frente del proyecto del genoma humano, porque no estaba de acuerdo con el director del NIH sobre su idea de patentar los descubrimientos del genoma  “The nations of the world must see that the human genome belongs to the world’s people, as opposed to its nations.”  

The Seahorse and the nanoneddle

El Seahorse es la última tecnología para comprender el modo en que la célula produce energía en distintos escenarios.
Ron Davis ya lo había utilizado en el pasado, y quiere volver a hacerlo para contrastarlo con los resultados obtenidos con el nanoneedle, y su idea de lo que bloquea la producción de energía.

El nanoneddle es otra tecnología desarrollada por su equipo, que es la que utilizará en último término para su investigación, porque piensa que le proporciona datos más útiles, y también porque podría utilizarse para producir el primer marcador biológico de la enfermedad, y con un coste mínimo.

Por ejemplo la disfunción de las células NK es claro que existe, pero sólo un laboratorio lo hace correctamente.

El Perfil Inmunológico

Los avances en este campo de la mano de Mark Davis (miembro del advisory board), son también muy significativos, y parece que están relacionados con las células T, y que podrían permitir desarrollar un perfil inmunológico de la enfermedad.
